Built between the second half of the 11th and the 12th centuries on Coudenberg hill, the Palace of Brussels was then rebuilt, enlarged and embellished as the prestige of the Dukes of Brabant grew. They were followed by the Dukes of Burgundy, the Emperor Charles V and finally the Archduke Albert and Archduchess Isabelle. In 1731 a fire destroyed the Palace and the reorganisation of the district in 1775 made it disappear altogether. Unjustly forgotten by history, the memory of this remarkable Palace can still be discovered via its remains : a fascinating tour in the underground passages under the Place Royale.
